Art at Place X is a unique project of the Košice Region Tourism organization that introduces art directly into the natural environment of the Košice Region.
The goal of the project is to create artworks that, in perfect symbiosis, connect humans, nature, art, and the specificity of a given place. The project is based on the principles of ecotourism, and its ambition is to provide visitors with contact with high-quality contemporary art in an unconventional environment.
Whether you are looking for monumental sculptures referring to the industrial past, interactive objects, or artworks carrying an ecological message — Art at Place X offers the opportunity to discover the landscape from a new perspective.

Each artwork must respect nature and the location where it is situated. It incorporates local realities, history, and local communities — it is not a portable sculpture, but a response to the character of a specific place.
Drnava and Zádiel Valley in the heart of Gemer. The Herľany Geyser in Abov — one of the few periodically erupting geysers in the world, home to a land art piece in an industrial context.
Košiarny briežok in Smižany, the romantic Sans Souci summer house in Iliašovce, and Lake Turzov — three locations with an exceptional landscape and historical character.
Senianske rybníky and the Tajba national nature reserve — valuable wetland ecosystems of Lower Zemplín, where art enters a dialogue with the nature reserve.
Artworks are created as a result of an open call directed at active artists and art collectives. Every year we announce a new call, and projects can be submitted electronically.
The winning proposals are decided by an expert jury composed of professionals in visual arts, architecture, and destination management. Artistic quality, ecological approach, and durability of the artwork are evaluated.
Winners receive a financial reward and a realization budget. The artwork is created directly at the selected location in collaboration with the local community and with respect for the environment.
The realized artworks become part of the permanent Slovak Land Art Gallery — accessible all year round, for free, directly in the landscape of the Košice Region.
The Art at Place X project is implemented by Košice Region Tourism — the destination management organization of the Košice Region.
KRT focuses on the development of tourism through the cultural, natural, and experiential values of the region. The project was born from the belief that high-quality art and nature are not mutually exclusive — on the contrary, in the right context they strengthen their impact.
The first gallery of its kind in Slovakia — without walls, without entrance fees, directly in the landscape of the Košice Region. The exhibits are not behind glass, but are part of the nature they belong to.
